VACCINATIONS

Although I still vaccinate my cats and kittens, I believe that we over-vaccinate our animals and that most health problems come from bad diets and environment. My goal is to breed animals which have a naturally strong immune system and avoid unnecessary vaccinations.

There has been a lot written about vaccinations and I urge you to read about it as much as you can and make up your own mind. Keep in mind what a huge business are yearly vaccination and boosters for our little furry friends.

You can find several sites that address vaccinations on our LINKS page. And please visit Eden-Lea Ragdolls. I am very impressed with Kirsty’s work and dedication to raise her kittens naturally and without any vaccinations!

DECLAWING

Please do not buy kittens from me if you intend to de-claw them! There are other ways to deal with scratching cats! For more information about declawing please visit: http://members.aol.com/catz4u/ragdoll/declaw.htm

LITTER

I use pine pellets – made from surplus pine waste (pressed sawdust). Once the pellets get wet they turn to saw dust. If you sift it, you can use them again – there is very little waste. Sifted saw dust can be used in the garden for mulching. The best litter tray I’ve found is Oz-pet’s sieve tray. If I collect the solids and shake the litter tray daily, I only need to clean it and refresh it every three – four days. Since I’ve started using them, I have significantly reduced the amount of pellets I use.

Check Oz-pet website if you need more info about the tray:

In New Zealand you can get the pine pellets from:

HOUSING FOR OUR BOYS

I keep my boys in the house with us as long as possible, but when they are about 6 months old they move to cottages with big runs attached.  If they don't spray, they can stioll come for a visit. At the moment, Jaran is a lucky boy that comes to watch movies with us in the evening - but only if he agrees to wear his g-string diaper! Unfortunatelly I did not have a stud yet that does not spray - it is a natural ugre for them as they want to let the girls know they are here for them!

I have found these beautiful log cabin play houses from NZ Log Chalets. They are all in my orchard and one of them has a run attached already. The two are getting their runs at the moment. I still have some planting to do to provide the shade, but it is already starting to look really good. I love to come and sit here with my boys - I often have my breakfast with them, or just a cup of tea while reading a book with a cat in my lap. I think it is very important to spend a lot of time with animals, and specially with entire boys who don't get as much fun in life as other cats.
