I am sure I am not the only cat obsessed person out there noticing every cat in paintings, films, photographs.... I thought I'd like to share my favouite artists and featured cats here, and I would love to hear back from anybody who wants to contribute to this page!
For the lucky ones living in Melbourne - you can see selected works by Louis Wain at the Neon Parc Gallery in Bourke St., from 20-31st January 2009. Thanks to Nick Cave who chose the pieces for this exhibition! The same exhibition was also shown at ATP festival at Mt Buller, and it was one of the nicest B-day gifts to see it there! Together with all the wonderful artists who sang there - what an unforgettable B-day party it was!
Chris Beetles Gallery has a great selection of cat artists and you can see some of their work here:
Audrey is one of my favourite young artists and I found two very cute kittens in one of her paintings! Visit Audrey Kawasaki's site to see more of her amazing work!
SUSAN HERBERT
"Cabaret"
"Worship of the Egyptian Bull God" (based on a painting by F. Lippi)
Susan's paintings are often based on well-known works of art, where she replaces people with cats. For more work by Susan Herbert visit Chris Beetles Gallery.
Tony Mendoza''s "Earny"is definitely one of my favourite cat photography books! Tony took pictures of his roomate's cat in New York 1980-1983. Check out Tony Mendoza's website for more great photos of Earny!
Full title is "Yaba no naka no kuroneko" meaning "The Black Cat From Inside the Bamboo Grove".
One of my favourite japanese ghost films in which mother and daughter-in-law are raped and murdered by samurai. Licked by a black cat, they return as ghosts to revenge their death...
